It has been a nice warm winter here in southeast Texas; it has been nice that I have not had to cover any trees at all so far this winter.

However, I can already tell that this upcoming year is going to be a challenge. It is currently January 26, and all my trees (on trifoliate rootstock) are already putting out new growth and my Meyers on their own roots are in full bloom. There are leaf-miners everywhere!

I'm really hoping that a February cold snap is not in the works to really punish my trees....

Pretty mild here (southern AZ) so far as well. A little dismayed to see blossoms and new leaves on a Bearss lime that I've left covered on a few questionable nights. I just know what's coming, though - several cold snaps in the coming month. We're usually not safe here until after March 15 or so...

Well, we were very chilly up until a couple of days ago. Today we had some very, very warm weather. 80 here in N. San Diego county area near the coast, and it was 85 in Riverside! Unreal. Sadly though, we are not getting near the rain we had the last 3 winters. True La Niña for us.

Very warm winter here. I think we dropped down to 24 one night, ever since we have only dropped into the mid 30's on occasion. Days have been mostly in the70's. Everything is getting flower buds now. Strawberry plants are in full bloom. Shocked

I'll try to be positive with my summer outlook! Rolling Eyes

The lowest temp I saw was 30 for only a couple of hours. That occurred on two days which were separated by a week of mild temps. Barring an unusual occurrence our freeze threat is over. We could still have frost through March 15. I have an Orinoco banana pushing a bloom with brown leaves hanging. The mat is pushing new leaves though and I hope the mat can feed the fruiting P-stem. I have not had any cold damage to my less than one year in the ground citrus plants. I haven't seen any blooms yet other than Kumquat which apparently are like rabbits and does it all the time. Perplexingly I have not seen bloom one since planting my Meyer lemons. Confused I thought they bloomed year round. I hope that I will see something this spring with them. Both of my glen Navels died from an unknown. Sad Only the grafted part died and the rootstock is fine. Thankfully the vendor has agreed to replace it. Very Happy I guess I can pull my soil bank back and go ahead with the imidacloprid treatment. I hope that takes care of the biting, sucking and chewing bugs. Here is an article on imidacloprid use on citrus.

I'm looking forward to a really great year and hope to push these young trees hard to try and increase the trunk girth as much as possible.

Now if we can dodge the hurricane season!!!!!!!! Shocked

Here it is January 30 and in my part of North Florida we've only gone below actual freezing (32F) just once so far this winter. Of course that one time went down to an even twenty degrees so it hammered the little bit of citrus I had out unprotected.

We've had several light frosts this winter, but we can get those all the way up to 36 degrees and sometimes even up to 38 if it was humid the day before.

The winter of '09-10 was the coldest I've ever known in Florida and now the winter of '11-12 has become the warmest.

Well, then it isn't just me then.

I have things flowering all over the yard- daffodils, thrift, oak trees, quince, etc and the temps all winter have been above normal.

I'm fearing that winter will just come late and ruin everything.

People in Florida, and Georgia, would have a very difficult time convincing a Coloradoan that either state EVER has a hard winter. - Millet (356 ABO-)

Here in Vancouver Canada (49 deg. North) we had a week of winter (January 13th to 19th) - lows -6c or about 20f . A few light snow falls thrown in and that's was was all we had for winter to date and for the foreseeable future. This weekend the highs will be over 10c or 50f for daytime highs.

My in ground Meyer lemons are turning yellow under their protective cover of their portable greenhouse.

Its nice to see the days getting a bit longer Laughing

Hope we don't get any late surprises, but so far it's been a great winter.

Laaz, your winter weather could be great spring here. rk01_aola
For the forecast like one for your area I'll have to wait 10 more weeks.
