I used to analyze pesticide residues in human poison cases at EPA and I can tell you, there have been many cases of accidental poisoning. I could tell you some really sad stories.
If anyone on this forum want to know about specific pesticides, I will be glad to tell you what I know. I am not one that avoids pesticides all together, but I try not to use them unless I have to and always try to use the safest effective chemicals available. There are many of the newer pesticides that actually have lower acute toxicity to humans than table salt. _________________ Skeet

Thank you Karl. I still have a hard time believing that the EPA was started by Republican president, Nixon. It has now exploded way beyond all reasonable limits. - Millet |

I believe that EPA has done a lot of good things and are still doing good work, but the easy stuff is done. Banning DDT and the other persistient pesticides has brought back many birds including the eagle and the brown pelican I love to watch prowling our bay. Who knows how much damage was done by lead in paint and gasoline, but it is very toxic to children and pregnant women. _________________ Skeet

Skeeter, most every organization has done a few good things. It is the sum of the + and - that tells the full story. EPA has blooned to 10's of thousands of additional government employees, while costing 10's of thousand of job losses in the private sector, and is now micro managing. - Millet |

Actually, EPA's workforce has been dropping for most of the past 20 years. And as for the jobs in the private sector, environmental protection has created far more jobs due to the need for environmental monitoring, equipment, design, services ect.
Maybe you don't remember how bad the air was or how polluted the rivers were--I do. When I add up the + and - I think it is well in the + side. _________________ Skeet

Skeet, I'll drop any further EPA discussion, but will add that I live in the west (Colorado) and I do not remember polluted rivers nor bad air. I guess that is a East Coast, and of course, and certainly a California thing. |

I will say that our Milwaukee River & lakefront was not well for a long time. We had tanneries & recycling paper factories etc that were dumping into the river for many years. Chicago was blaming MKE for poluting Lake Michigan's beaches but we now know it is from seagull droppings. I think we should have open season on seagulls! _________________ Patty

Being from upstate NY, The Atlantic Salmon used to migrate up the Hudson River. Now the river is basically dead. GE chemicals is the major problem there & is still paying massive fines. Today not much of anything of value uses the Hudson. The facts are right in front of our eyes... _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Like I said, it is a California and East Cost thing. Come out west, where you can drink out of the river, and see a million stars in the night sky. I still dont like the EPA. - Millet |
