I've been growing some seedlings for a couple of years with plans to eventually graft them. I've never eaten a pawpaw, but have heard they were very good. I hope to try some grown by a friend near Sacramento later this summer. However, I purchased an imported cherimoya earlier this year and was disappointed with all of the seeds that made it difficult to eat. My friend told me that pawpaw have even more seeds. Is there some trick to eating these or are they not as bad as I have been warned? Maybe I just had a very seed cherimoya to compare it to; it probably had 50+ seeds that made up 1/4 to 1/3 of the fruit volume.

harveyc, I have only eaten one Cherimoya, so I am not an expert on the fruit. It was a fruit that I purchased from the supermarket. I only ate 1/2 or it. I did not care much for the taste, but further I could not believe how many large seeds the fruit contained with every bite. - Millet

Yes, they have lots of seeds but they are large, about like a lima bean and aren't a bother. I planted all the seeds and they are sprouting now. They taste good but are a very strong flavor not everyone likes. I liked the pawpaw ice cream I made. This year I get to taste my texas pawpaw selected by a friend and a Peterson pawpaw to contrast with the Naomi's delicious I had last year. One other plus, the birds don't seem to notice them as the fruit are green until they fall off the tree. The birds have been murdering my golf ball size green citrus in the last few weeks. It'e hard to find a fruit without damage.

MrTexas,
Nice looking fruit.
harveyc,
I have had Peterson's Pawpaws. I have a Susquehanna in the ground and it's my favorite. It only has 3 % seeds according to his site. These are large up to 1 lb fruit and very firm flesh.
