Hello all,
I was very inexperienced but enthusiastic about growing citrus. So I have planted some seeds from grocery fruits. They are:
1.A grapefruit, planted on February 2007,
2.A mandarin, planted on January 2008, and
3.An unidentifiable, since I forgot to label it, but planted with the mandarin (Jan, 2008). I assume it can be another mandarin or a lemon.
They are all around 70 cm high now. Unfortunately they don't give out any branches (excet for the grapefruit which has 3 Very Happy ) but are getting higher and higher.
I wanted to ask for some advice on what to do to make them grow branches. I read some places about pruning the top half, but I don't want to proceed without sound knowledge. They are not grafted or anything and I have never given them any fertilizers.
Any advice would be welcome Rolling Eyes

Hi e_ferah and welcome to the forum. They all look nice and healthy, but should be fertilized at least three times a year.

I always top my seedlings at about 18 inches. This forces branching down below.

You say the plant in the third photo is a grapefruit ? It does not look like it as the leaves have no wing.

Yes, they all look like mandarins.
Crunch a little piece of leave and smell it. You will know. You can even taste it.

Well...
I wouldn't object to the experts! The thing is, I have planted more seeds when I was starting but only these 3 have survived (I was away for a long time last year and my boyfriend wasn't the best gardener Smile). So I guess, either me, or him, or the cleaning lady may have made a mess with the labels Smile
Anyway, I read Laaz's post and some others about fertilizing.
I infer that I can/should use a fertilizer year-round for my container citruses, and this could be close to 5-1-3 npk ratio (didn't know what it was until half an hour ago Smile).
One thing I can't figure out is, how much (gr/liter) should I use for 1 liter of water? And should I do this in every watering or once a month?
Thanks...
