I wanted to try pine bark peat moss and sand at a 3-1-1 ratio.
But havent found the sand. I only have arena del rio which translates to sand from the river is this useable and what is the sandal purpose on container citrus.
Btw we have lowes home depot and walmqrt here in the deep south

Commercial nurseries use sand for three purposes. 1). Sand helps some with drainage, 2),adds weight (ballast) to the container which helps with tip over, and 3). Sand is very inexpensive, therefore if 20 percent of the potting medium is sand, the nursery's cost is greatly reduced, making their profits higher. You can use sand or not. A 3:1 bark/peat moss medium would be a good medium for container citrus. I would not recommend using fine grade sand, as such sand would fill in much of the medium's porosity, reducing the root zone aeration. - Millet (898-)
