Development of UCR land would mean loss of agricultural research space, income and attractive draw for faculty. Meant only one thing for me, shrinking of citrus research facilities:

And there's talk of closing the Arizona State University agricultural research center in Waddel, AZ also. (I was just there this morning)
Of course all this at a time when we need more research due to problems with new viruses .. but what the heck!,, its OK ,, lets close and destroy the American farms and orchards.. we can always just import from other countries that don't have to get inspected like the American products... It's cheaper that way, right? I've even heard that it's good for America!

Land development has long been an adversary of citrus. Citrus trees take a back seat to Spotted Owls. It is sad, but when the University looks for space to expand, a field of citrus trees is an easy target. - Millet
