In Florida, the maturity and grade standards for citrus is very rigidly enforced by both the Florida Department of Citrus and the Florida state statutes. Therefore, the internal quality of Florida citrus is higher than for most other areas, while appearance is generally lower because of pale color, wind scar, mite damage, and so on. However, Florida shippers usually try to select only crops grown with optimum external and good internal quality. - Millet (1,221-)

Another "fun fact" about Florida citrus -- because so large a percentage of our crop goes to juice production, the general public tends not to understand the size scale of our industry. But in a "normal" year (pre canker and greening, no hurricane, hard freeze, etc.), it is common for my county alone (Polk County) to produce more tons of citrus than all of California, Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana combined.
