With nothing else to do in the morning, I sampled the unripe fruit from my Vainiglia Sanguigno. Unripe because the fruits are still 50% greenish, and by Northern California's citrus growing, that is truly unripe. Since I have a lot of fruits, wasting one of them would not be a problem.

To my surprise, it has already the pink pigmentation in is outer flesh, and I thought I may have used a stained knife, but it was from the unripe fruit.

When tasting this, there was no hint of acid at all, even for this unripe sample, it is sweet! I can taste the zest very strongly because it is still unripe. This is a winner here in my yard. It occupies a third of the canopy of my pigmented oranges tree, and no need to expand this.

I strongly recommend this cultivar for those people who have cool season when harvest time comes. It would have been sweeter if planted in Southern California, but this one is sweeter than my Miho Wase Satsuma. Because it is highly palatable when still unripe in my yard, I think I would have a prolonged season enjoying this fruit. There wouldn't be enough left for wine making as my picky kids loved the sample.

Will post more detailed pics when it ripens and will open them up for you all to see.

The Vainiglia Sanguigno is seeded. So if anyone interested in having some seeds, just PM me.

I think where you are located you are more likely to have this Orange have more
sweetness than most areas of Southern California can have or will have at this
same stage in the growing season. Being a low acid, sweet Orange this one can
be fresh eaten anytime now, even better when and after the fruit has been exposed
to some cold chill.

We are going to have to try to get a Vainiglia Sanguigno and grow it ourselves.
Thanks for the progress report.
