tendency for alternate-bearing. Found a reasonably-priced little tree with no label other than "Satsuma". I just grabbed it on impulse. It has one fruit on it, and I have left it just to see what kind of fruit it will make. My Owari has ripe fruit on it, but this strange little fruit is small, wrinkly and dark green. I planted it in mid-October, and the appearance of the fruit has not changed one bit. Is it hanging on and not growing/ripening because the little thing is just trying to make roots?

I have four Owaris that are one year old. Like you, one of my trees had a single fruit and it had the same appearance as yours. It eventually turned orange and it was of poor quality. Dry, pithy, not sweet and not pleasant in your mouth. I spit it out. I don't think this is a predictor for next year though.

It was delicious, and juicy. It made me feel excited about the little tree, now in full bloom.

They get much better as the trees age. I have found the smaller fruit are the best. You will get some large bumpy fruit on your trees which will be poor quality. I usually remove them when I see them.

Even with alternate bearing trees you should have enough fruit for your family.

My Owari's had a lot of blooms this year. Shocked

I also had good bee activity! Very Happy

The trees have been planted one year now. As much as I hate to I should remove all but five or so of the fruit. Crying or Very sad

I hope next year I'll be able to keep ten - fifteen fruit per tree. Smile
