I have 12 different trees in terracotta pots. Its winter here in new zealand and half of them are putting out new growth. It doesnt get colder than 5c at night(often milder than that) and average 15c in day.My trees in the garden are going ripe.
I have two citrus inground. It seems like growth patterns in my containers are different to in the ground=
In ground you get new growth in spring and Autumn. Is there any reason for this?Should i feed half strength, seeing as the container trees are growing?
Also,Is their an optimal PH that i should try to achieve for all my pots and how do you lower it or raise it?They are 7 at present. Thanks

The optimum Ph for your soil all depends on the rootstock they are grafted on. Trifoliata like a more acidic soil than does sour orange and many others.

Different growth paterns could be caused by root systems temperatures. The in-ground citrus and terra-cotta potted citrus are exposed to different fluxuations in temps and could result in the growth paterns you've seen. Just a hunch.

Cheers, Barrie.

That's right Barrie. Add to that about the differences in aeration of the pots, and the amount of water loses from those pots. Terra cottas are more aerated than plastic pots.
