I've been told that the American grapefruit is much sweeter than the Australian grapefruit. Ours is very sour and almost impossible to eat without sugar or honey.

Has anyone tried both types? Is my source correct about the American version being sweeter?

I'd love to find out, and if it's true I'll talk to you about getting some seeds LOL.

Hi, I had the privilege of tasting an Australian grapefruit.. or so it was called by my host in Mississippi last January. I will have to say that it is much more sour than the American types of Grapefruit that I am accustomed to. There is a particular variety called "bloomsweet" that has a somewhat sweet flavor to it.. The ruby red and some of the other types are great too.

I will add Duncan, Marsh, Golden Grapefruit, and Flame to Stan's list. Duncan is seedy, but becomes sweet early, and, IMHO, is one of the best tastewise.

I am not sure if it is legal to send seed to Australia, but you should be aware that the juvinale period for GF can be as 15 years or more.
