Lemon guava.

I got one tasty fruit this past year. Kind of seedy, but delicious. It is flowering now and looks like it's going to set many fruit this coming year. I got some seeds from my first fruit to germinate.

This plant has the strangest habit for me. It refuses to develop anything that you could call a leader or even a trunk. The young basal growth goes up a short distance, then the branches grow outward on a horizontal plane. The secondary branches then bend backward, back toward what would be the center of the plant.

Is this growth habit characteristic of the plant, or something unique to my growing conditions?

Well now, that one reminds me of a Rubber Tree! Nice looking plant!

Very healthy looking SB. How big was the fruit? What did it taste like?
Was it seedy like a kiwi? Could you post a pic of the whole tree?
My lemon guavas are about 1 1/2 yrs old & getting bushy. I had 4 fruits on the Ruby but they fell off when about 1 inch. It has about 6-7 branches off the trunk & they are horizontal.

The seeds aren't really big enough to have to remove, but I'd say a little to big to eat really comfortably. The fruit was green forever, then yellowed almost overnight and then practically fell off the tree. Size was about 1.25 inches. My fruit was only slightly lemony, sweet, with little acid.

I have blooms now and it looks like I'll have at least half a dozen fruit from this flush of blooms!

Robert, I have a couple of the same quavas. The growth of my plants are the same as you described. The plant is MUCH wider than it is tall. The lateral branches extend a considerable distance, and the secondary branches bend down. I do like the taste of the fruit. All in all it is a good looking plant, but takes a lot of room for the amount of fruit given. I have it growing in a CHC medium and give it a LOT of water. I might try converting it to a large hanging basket. In the past I have tossed out various guava varieties when I found that I did not care for the taste of those particular types. - Millet

Thanks, gang.

It sounds like this is a normal growth habit for the plant. I have mine planted in a raised bed. In retrospect, I would rather have planted it in a different spot. It is not worth moving, however, so we'll see if the production is better over the next year or two. There is too little room in the GH to tolerate underproducing plants, know what I mean?
