Is this a Satsuma tree in your opinion? Local nursery has it on sale for an aggressive price. The tree has lost it’s tag and the folks there know nothing about it. I went by and took a look at it yesterday – the fruit is round with no neck. The fruit peeled fairly easily but the peel itself was brittle and would come off a postage stamp size at a time. Fruit was very juicy and had a little tang, almost like maybe just a little bit of pineapple. The segments did not separate very easily. The fruit I ate had a single seed.

I’ve read that satsumas need some age on them to produce good fruit. Maybe the fruit on this one was different because it’s in a pot.

What do you think? Pics here:

If it turns out not to be a satsuma, graft what you want on the top.

Seeds? Thorns?

I does not look like a satsuma & if it does not peel very easy, it is not a satsuma. Most satsumas are done by now & the ones still hanging on the trees are soft.

It certainly does not look like a satsuma. More like an orange of some kind.

I'm going to agree that it isn't a mandarin. I also would go with it being an orange. It is a nice looking tree whatever it turns out to be.
