I have a 4 years old lemon tree grown from seed, i don't know what particular cultivar it is; it's not in the maturity stage yet. Have someone of you ever tried to grow a lemon from seed, and in container? I would like to know your tree's "time to maturity", container size need etc...and of course i would like to see pictures!
Thanks, Ivan |

I have tried, but they get too large. The two I tried got to be over 10 ft tall and still no fruit. They were in 30 gal containers. Much easier to cut a budstick or two from mature trees, root them and have lemons the following year. Lemon is about the easiest citrus to root. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

Thank you Laaz for your answer. Wow, 10 foot without any fruit is quite impressive! I think i have to put my hopes on my mandarin at this point! |

A seedling mandarin will get very large as well. I have two in my yard, both bearing fruit but they are well over 12 ft tall. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

I've grown couple lemons from seed. The seeds came from a lemon wedge in a glass of water at a Red Lobster restaurant. So surely they were either Eureka or a Lisbon seeds. A seedling lemon tree is a vigorous grower with a upright growth habit. When the trees reached 4 or 5 feet (rather quickly), I decided I did not want to put any more effort into a long wait for fruit, so I sent them to the compost pile. - Millet (509-) |

Laaz, how tall were the mandarins when they first became productive? |

Millet i'm noticing this kind of habit with the mandarin tree, but my lemon tree seems to prefer growing large insted of tall - in fact it's only 3.5 ft tall but it's more than 4 years old; it relly doesn't grow fast, but the dirth it's almost the same that i used for the mandarin tree. This one is only 2.5 years old but is well taller than the lemon |
