David I have fresh, viable seed right now if you're interested. I saved some late fruit from my loquats and forgot about them in the crisper. I took them out a few days ago and set the tray of fruit in the greenhouse. Tonight I was inspecting the fruit and removing the seeds and saw that some of them are starting to germinate. Send me a PM if you want some.

Patty if I were you I'd graft mature fruiting wood to that seedling of yours. Getting that seedling to grow out to fruiting size might be difficult in a manageable sized pot.

G, I think you're right. I potted up to a 5 gal couple months ago & it needs a bigger pot now. It is almost 5ft from soil. What is a good variety to graft as far as taste?
I picked the fruit in Fl & brought fruit & seeds home - don't know what variety. Small, about 2 inches & looked like an apricot & it was VERY seedy. I posted here 2 yrs ago & Ned is the one who identified the fruit - I never saw one before. Thanks for posting the grafting lesson pics.
Ned, that link didn't work for me Shocked

Big Jim has been my best performer. It sets prodigious amounts of good tasting fruit with a good flesh to seed ratio. McBeth & Gold Nugget are not too far behind. Advance, Strawberry and some of the other ones like Champagne are self infertile so you'll need to multigraft onto one rootstock or have another variety around somewhere for pollination. Still on trials are Panzarella (Genoa) and Jane's select. Jane's select is supposed to be a loquat that flowers more than one time a year which would enable growers in marginal areas to ensure a fruit set. Remind me next spring and I should be able to send cuttings.

Thanks eyeckr, I think I will try my hand at grafting again. I'm getting the "grafting bug". I would love to try multi grafting some of your top favorites.
We are leaving tomorrow for a week in Branson MO so I'll pm you after the 14th. Hope this is a good time of year to graft loquats. Thanks!!! Laughing
