I got a nice tour of this citrus grower's greenhouses last weekend. David Shackelford is growing 40,000 or more citrus trees. One interesting thing I learned were that he grows out flying dragon trifoliate to pencil size in one year in greenhouses with a water system that feeds fertilizer every day. The seedlings are started in 2x2inch seedling flats, and end up in 3 gallon pots when pencil size and ready to bud. It takes me two-three years to get them that big. It was quite an operation! I've never seen so many citrus trees in one place. He had just gotten in 9,000 buds from the Texas budwood bureau and had budders from Florida to do the budding. Texas just made certified budwood mandatory for limes, lemons, and a few oranges, however, they (the Texas budwood program) can't provide enough buds to the big commercial growers!
