I'm a newbie to Citrus in Containers. I have Lost 1 Orange and my other am trying to nurse back from Root Rot, Still alive 1 year old orange navel. I will never use Vermiculite with the professional potting mix i had. So now i use Perlite. Very Happy Eureka Lemon and 2 orange Trees i just brought back from FL, they are in 1 gallon containers. Is Dyna Grow Foliage Pro 9-3-6 good for Citrus? What is a good Pine mulch or is it necessary to mix when i repot to a larger Container, or can i use a good peat mix with Perlite for airation? Epson Salt, White Vinegar, there is so much to learn. I have a allseasons Sunroom with 7+ hours of South Sun, But with Michigans numerous Cloudy days i use HO Lighting. One thing i have learned,DO NOT OVER WATER !!! I know i can be successful with all the Members knowledge. Next task, start posting photos.

The MOST important ingredient to promote the vigorous growth of a citrus tree is WATER. Water moves all the tree nutrition up from the roots, moves sugars down from he leaves. There is not a single reaction within the tree's metabolism that does not require water, nothing happens without water. Nothing a person can give the tree is more important than water. Restricting the amount of water due to a fear of over watering the tree is not a wise decision. Remember, it is NEVER the amount of water that causes a citrus tree's problem, it is poor root zone drainage that causes the problem. When a citrus is growing in the proper medium, the tree can be watered 3 times per day without any negative results, in fact the tree would love it. As I have posted before on this forum several times, in a two month test, I watered a container citrus tree every day, and many times 2 or 3 times per day for two months. Not only did the tree not experience any difficulty, it grew and grew and grew. At present I have a Black Twig Lime seedling in a 5-gallon container that is only 7 months old, it is already 3 feet tall and 15 inches wide. The tree is in a 50:50 medium of Cedar mulch and potting soil.

Foliage Pro 9-3-6 (3-1-2 ratio) is not a bad formula, 25-5-15 i(5-1-3-ratio) is better. - Millet
