I HATE those things...had problems with them for years. Haven't seen them on my citrus, but they are in any FOLDS of leaves on my plants. When I look inside I see them in there & try somehow to squish or just shake 'em out. I have a double datura trying to bloom & wondering why it isn't, I opened the outer fold & saw 3 of them inside. I knocked them out after I tore outer leaf. Next day they were in there again!
Any good preventative or killer? Thanks _________________ Patty

Hi Patty, I have earwigs in the greenhouse. I don't know what, or if, they actually do much damage. As you say, they like to crawl into tight places. As a somewhat regular practice, I take a sheet of the morning newspaper and crumble it up into a ball, and place it on the ground. where I see some activity. The next morning it has earwigs and sow bugs hiding in the crevices. of the paper. I then just toss them into a bucket of water, or burn the paper. Not a cure all, but it definitely keeps the numbers down. - Millet |

Sometimes earwigs damage seedlings and young growth spurts of various plants. Often they go into the pith of stone fruits like freestone peaches, pluots, apricots and eat the fruit from inside out. |

Millet, what a great idea...I will do that today. They were in the same flower again this am. I think that is why the flower is not bloomed.
Last summer, I picked a few corn at my friends garden & when I pulled a husk down, a BUNCH of earwigs fell out. All the corn on top half was eaten & the rest was bad. Almost all his crop was infested. I hate those ugly things. I'll get a bucket & newspapers out there now & let you know how it's working for me. Thanks! _________________ Patty

I put 3 balls of newspaper under my dbl. Dat & some in several pots. No earwigs in them! I dunno, maybe the ones here went to college or something. They seem to like that Datura. I have 2 others planted next to it & no earwigs. Today, I noticed 4 big blossom buds not open yet but they all have small holes at the top. I peeled one open & 3 earwigs fell out!!!! So, I got the boric acid & put a bunch inside buds through those holes. I'll check again tomorrow. _________________ Patty

Patty, sorry you did not catch any earwigs. Did you use a liberal newspaper? Earwigs, do not like liberal newspapers. - Millet |

Hi Millet, not sure what you mean by "liberal" newspaper I used the regular black & white want-ad stuff.
Saw a pic of you in Citrus Joe's greenhouse. He was happy you visited him & had a good time! _________________ Patty
