Gentlemen
My Flying Dragon failed to germinate. I dug it up today and the seed has rotted. Does anyone have any FD seed that they can get rid of. I have lots of Poncirus Tri to trade. It is good seed...all of it germinated and I have lots left....but.........alas the FD did not do it. I still have time to get seed in the ground if someone can help me out. Thanks in advance if you can.

reversethong, over on the gardenweb citrus forum, fishman49 is selling them for a nominal fee... I think it is about $2 per dozen plus postage. I bought some and they are coming up just fine.

I have not visited the Garden Web's site for a couple years, but evidently the rules must be changed. They used to NEVER allow anyone to sell for profit. - Millet (1,206-)

Millet, I haven't checked the rules. It may be he just hasn't been caught. Personally I was happy to get them for what seemed to me dirt cheap. I didn't have anything on his trade list.

Thanks for the heads up fofoca. I'd rather pay a forum member here if it's an option.

I would think most of the FD fruit is still ripening? Besides, I feel better asking for seeds from members here, as I feel I will be getting the seeds I'm asking for.

Actually, I'm also wondering when the Poncirus/FD fruit get ripe, since I too am planning to beg for a few seeds.

The first fruits are falling. Fully ripe in one week.

fofoca, do the seedling appear to be Flying Dragon?

What's the best way to tell what seedlings will be dwarf type?

They're definitely trifoliata, but I haven't seen any kinks yet. They're still very small, though - only one is over an inch tall.

What do you plan to graft?

I need some FD to practice bud grafting on, that's why I want it. I'll let the best tree mature.

reversethong, some day in the future I may have a bigger yard, but for now I'm very space-limited. If I want more trees, I can't have big ones. I have a mature Robertson navel, a yuzu, a Meyer lemon, and a bunch of sudachi seedlings. All of these are candidates for future miniaturization. My navel orange tree is near its end of life so maybe I can make a new tree on FD.

I bought some small FD plants that I plan to try cuttings from as well.

reversethong, the thorns on Flying Dragon (FD), are curved, and on older FD trees the thorns grow to be very long and very curved, thus the name Flying Dragon. On the other trifoliate varieties the thorns are more of a straight thorn. It is quite easy to tell the difference betwen the varieties. - Millet (1,197-)
