WOW! Are you sure that Cara Cara is not photos shopped That color is impressive. Just the sheer volume of fruit you are producing is jaw dropping. Do you sell anything at farmers markets? you should consider it of not. |

Cara Cara is a Washington Navel orange mutation (sport). It is seedless. However, just like with a Washing Navel, a seed may be found every now and then. I'l l be picking the last of the Cara Cara's from my tree, if I find a seed you will be welcome to it if you so desire.
A couple days ago eating a BC-1 Satsuma, I found it to contain one seed which is very rarely ever found. - Millet |

Yes, when grown with other citrus they produce seed. In the same vicinity there is yuzu, grapefruit, Panzarella orange, centennial kumquat, limequat, sanbokan, ponkan, meyer lemons & satsumas.

So the seeds are not nucellar?
I was wondering if a cara cara was grown from seed, the resulting plant would also produce pink oranges...? _________________ - Marc

My neighbor has a few of his own trees which I gave him.
Marc I haven't tried growing any from seed, as from my experience is that variegated fruit produce mostly albino seedlings. _________________ Wal-Mart a great place to buy cheap plastic crap ! http://walmartwatch.com/ ...

What a delightful looking Dragon!
I must go out a sample my Cara Caras. My daughter told me today that the pink orange was really sweet! _________________ Charles in Pensacola

Last night I was reading about experiments by Perlberger and Reichert. In their work they found that pretreatment of citrus seeds with a mercury compound prevented albinism in citrus seedlings. It is thought that the mercury compound affects the enzyme system in the seeds in such a manner that healthy instead of albinistic seedlings are produced. Perhaps (who knows) with a mercury pretreated variegated seed, one could grow a variegated tree. - Millet |
