Those bikes are really cool! Never could figure out how you get up on one though?
Thanks Mr. Texas!

Mr. Texas, that looks like a Golden, Colorado (home of Coors beer) bike.

Good thing you're wearing a helmet. The height on that bike would make for one nasty fall. |

There is a peg on the backbone near the small wheel. Step with your left foot on the peg while holding both handle bars and hop along until you get up to speed and then stand up and sit. I flew into Denver and bought it from Steve Stevens of Golden, CO who has a high wheel bike museum with 60 bikes in it.

Ok, I see the peg. Probably one foot on the pedal and up over like mounting a horse right? I think the little girlÂ’s bike with the training wheels looks safer.

I have never really thought about it, but how do you steer those bikes? Does the big wheel or the little wheel do the steering? How does it feel? _________________ Skeet

It steers and rides like a bike with the front wheel. The handle bars are straight across with handles that look like sturrups and not angled back like on a safety bicycle(modern bike.) A few late high wheels had handle bars like a modern bike.
My reproduction highwheel handle bars:
