Okay, here's the mystery. I was going to see if Trade Winds Fruit could redeem itself after the failure of all of the seeds in my first order. My second order didn't go any better, but what I did was planted my seeds in a biodome that I put on the top of my freezer for bottom heat. I labled the columns and rows with the various cultivars. However, as the Trade Winds seeds showed no signs of life, I started to replace them with the Flying Dragon and Sour Orange Seeds that I knew were good. After all of the good seeds were done germinating and subsequently transplanted, I left the container on the freezer and forgot about it (and what was planted where). In one of the rows marked as Calamondin, a seedling had come up after all. Now I know it isn't Flying Dragon, but I've never seen a Calamondin seedling so I don't know if it is distinguishable from a Sour Orange. My question is, could this be a Cal from Trade Winds, or is this one of the Sour Orange seeds that I put in when after the Cals all died?

Thanks,
Phillip

Hey Phillip,
Wish I could help. I have actually done something very similar. I had a bunch of seeds planted. I thought all had germinated and I transplanted them. I took out all the labels and set the tray off to the side to deal with later. About a week later something else popped up. I have it listed as "Unknown" It could be any of three different things. Hopefully it will eventually show some signs of growth habit that I can identify. Maybe yours will do the same. There is always the wait until it fruits aspect. Smile
Later,
Darren

I believe calamondins have very small wings on the petiole--They also have a kinda round end to the leaf. I will check mine tomorrow to confirm. I do not know the characteristics of sour orange leaves.

Certainly looks like a Sour Orange leaf. Sour Orange leaves have a bluntly pointed tip, and are rounded at the bottom. Petioles are 2-3 cm long, and broadly winged, often 1-2 cm wide at the top of the petioles, but rapidly narrowing to a wingless base. So if your choices are Calamondin or Sour Orange, it is definitely Sour Orange. Calamondins leaves look much like tangerine leaves with small blades. The petioles of a Calamondin is very narrowly winged - Millet

Thanks for the identification. I was leaning toward the Sour Orange because it looked like my other Sour Orange seedlings and nothing except for a couple of Kumquats ever germinated from Trade Winds.
