Anyone have a good method of getting rid of moles other than standing there with a shovel wating for them to surface ? I'm about ready to get two ground rods, soak the yard & wait for them to surface, then plug it to power & zap them....

a trick you could try....

Drive a wooden dowel in ground center of the yard.. the dowel should be about 10 inches long.. 5 inches in and 5 inches out... then take a sheet of heavy metal/ flat iron, cut up piece of truck spring will work.. or something equivalency.. rough measurements.. 3 in wide one foot long and about half inch thick...
Rub the metal on the end of the dowel to make the dowel vibrate.. you will need to do this a couple times a day for about 10 min each time..
This will also get earth worms to surface for about 10 ft circle around the dowel.. collect them for your garden or fishing..
The vibration will irritate the moles.. do it for a week or two and the moles will move on and give up on your property..
if your yard is larger than 100'X100' you may need to use more than one dowel.. the dowels drive the moles for roughly 50 ft give or take depending on soil type...
it is also a neat trick to amaze ppl over for a BBQ with.. Just tell them you can talk to the worms and then rub the dowel with the flat iron,, they will chuckle at your "craziness" at first.. but when the worms start coming out of the ground they will be amazed..
My uncle taught me this yrs ago...

Lazz, As it is with squirrels and ants, you are on the losing end of an ancient struggle. I suggest you surrender, and look on the moles a creatures that help aerate the soil and eat some pests, such as grubs. I did a search and can up with a lot of hits. This one was interesting:

The ONLY way to rid your yard of moles, voles, gophers is to remove the food supply. Moles and the like are attracted to the grubs that live in the ground. Once you remove the grubs you will be mole free. Moles presence is a sign of a well are aerated and fertile.

The bad flip side of this is that in order to remove the grubs you need to use a poision specifically for this purpose, this will also kill the earth worms.

There are many mechanical and homemade devices for moles but removal of the food supply is the only sure fire way to get rid of them.

Thanks Ned. I got two yesterday & haven't seen any new mounds today.

I just stomp the mounds down & stand there with a shovel. It only takes a few minutes for them to come back to repair the tunnel. Once it starts moving impale the shovel into the center of movement... Pull the sod back & theres dead mole... Leave him there for fertilizer...

Paul James talked of ways to rid moles & gophers on HGTV this A.M.
Moles don't eat plants, but the way to discourage them is to put a water hose in the hole & flush. Or, put your lawnmower exhaust in hole. He said those smoke bombs don't work. If those don't work, set live traps ( & then take them to someone's house that you don't like LOL)
A friend had a way to rid gophers by filling a bucket 2/3 way with water, & put a narrow board from ground to top of bucket. Put sunflower seeds all along board & some floating in bucket. They fall in & drown.
