I have lost a few seedlings and other plants..
The leaves curl up and dry out.. Not twig die back.. no leaf discoloration..
just suddenly the leaves curl up and dry. and though the branches are green they are brittle and dried out..

It started happening to my Kimbro Satsuma. I was looking at the soil and noticed a difference between it and the soil in the pot next to it with healthy plant.. the soil was pail and looked decomposed.. I know these were same soil mixture but the healthy plant still has nice big chunks to the soil.. the unhealthy soil looks like it is yrs old and almost no chunks.
The plants have not been treated differently in any way..
The only thing I have done FOR it is I added a bit of peroxide (2 tsp per gal of water *maybe it was 2 tbs was over a week ago*) to the last watering. this seems to have stabilized it as the leaves have stopped drying up and it is trying to put on new growth and has flower buds..
I don't know that this has fixed it.. but it seems to have helped for now..
It reminded me of how Twiggy died...
anyone have any ideas?? I'm not going to jump the gun here.. (DON"T WANT TO DO ANY THING STUPID)
I have cut off all the dried out leaves and it has 5 leaves left and a bunch of new baby leaves and flower buds.. there was no branch die back at all so I haven't had to cut any branches back.. and the branches didn't dry out yet..
Thanks for any help in this matter.

Gina, I have 100+ citrus trees, all except two trees are growing in containers. Every year about this time many of the trees are sloughing off their old leaves. Most leaves turn yellowish and drop from the tree. However, a good number do not develop a sufficient abscise layer to drop, these leaves curl and dry. Some of the curled/dried leave eventually drop, but some do not, and I have to pull them from the tree. I'm not sure about your particular tree, but it is normal in my trees, and in most trees. As far as your soil, if you use bark to produce a coarseness to your growth medium, bark only last about a year and then soon degrades after that.

Thanks for the input!

I will try and get some pics posted soon..

That the soil is so much different from one pot to the next is what has me worried..
yes there is bark in my mix.. it is getting to be a yr old in a month or so..

I do recall seeing little mushrooms growing in the pot after I brought it in for the winter.. I pulled them out and didn't think any thing about it again.. I get mushrooms in my yard now and then.. I'm wondering if this helped hurry along the decomposing??

at least it seems to have stabilized.. hopefully it will hold on for another month and I can get it some fresh potting mix..
I think when I told daughter to dump some soil (last fall) she dumped it back in to my potting mix.. I found a worm in my mix yesterday.. I put it in a bucket with some damp soil and leaves and a few other things to munch on.. we will see if it will survive ALL winter in my home.. Shocked
