I left the wrap on my cleft and bark grafts for like 5 weeks now they were green a week ago. I took of the wrap and were moldy and fuzzy. Was I suppose to unwrap them or did I do something wrong.

If you use parafilm you can leave the wrap on indefinitely, new growth will push right thru. If you use plastic strips or tape it will restrict the growth and should be removed--in spring grafting usually after 3-4 weeks, but with fall grafting, you can wait much longer--even til spring when growth is starting.

I use parafilm, so you think sterility was an issue or maybe water entered the graft?

With all the rain we have had and I think you had, it is possible that the rain got under the parafilm if you did not wrap it real tight. Do you use Lysol spray or alcohol to wipe your knife and the graft site?

Yes I used alcohol wipes for my knife and rubbed down knife and tree. Yes we did have a major Down pour also for like 3 days straight here.

You seem to be doing everything right--the only other thing is practice and speed. I can get a bud cut and into the "T" in less than 10 seconds. That helps prevent contamination and drying.

In your opinion or any others,do you think that if a union does not occur between scion and stock it rotts away? And if water enters the union it will rott also.
Thx skeet for advice this is the first time cleft and or bark grafting. So I would like to know for further grafting which my problem is and what I can do for better succes

Definitely, if you do not get a bond between the stock and the scion, the graft will die--usually within 3-4 weeks. Water getting into the graft will certainly have bad effects. Make sure you wrap from the bottom up so that the overlaps do not leak at the top. With cleft grafts, you have to get a good alignment with the cambium layers. With bark grafts, you need to have bark that is slipping. Both grafts need to be completely wrapped.
