Folks, can someone, please, advise what my orange got?

Here is the story: one of my potted Navels decided to decorate itself with flowers. While not concerned about the off-season bloom, I noticed tiny flies (I guess) wondering around flower buds. They are very thin and just about 2 mm long, yellowish-orange in color. Unfortunately, I was unable to take a picture due to their size and sprayed them just in case... What is left, really looks like pieces of hair - this is how small they were.

I'm very sorry about such unclear description with no pictures, but may anybody suggest what they might be?

Probably a flying insect called a thrip. As insect pests, thrips damage plants by leaving scars on leaves , flower petals, or fruit. This is directly due to their feeding habits, but, even worse, thrips can also spread plant viruses. - Millet 75

thank you very much! A quick image search confirms you are absolutely right! Will check my collection of poisons to see whether any of them would be right for the suckers!
