Depends which part of CA. We have different recurrent intervals between the north and south. The 50 year event around the Los Angeles area. The one that we had a couple of years back, from our North Inland region is a once every ten year event, so it was minor. But that same arctic blast over at Ventura county is a one in twenty year event (I may have to check this info unless someone can correct my memory ).

We've had also record breaking cold temp last 1990-91 winter season where many pipes broke down throughout the city, and that was a one in twenty year event. We are due for another one like that and it could be this year too and I hope I am wrong.

The long term forecast has warmer than normal predicted for the next 3 months in our area.
