HELP!

I have lots of citrus plants (orange, lime, tangerin, djeruk perut, grapefruit) and they are doing fine, but it looks like they are growing very very slow....

I know citrus grow in "flushes", but it looks they are having a wintersleep (in summer) 'cause they will not grow for months!

I give them plenty of water, and fertilizer (N P K)...they look great (green). Is it normal that citrus plants do not grow for a period of 5 months???

thanks in advance!

Mine didnt do much over winter but all have started growing recently, more so when I got my heat mat and warmed the roots up a bit. Most of them are now flying along!

Are you using any fertiliser?

Three to 4 flushes a year would be normal for inground citrus in a temperate climate, 2 or 3 flushes could be expected for container plants in a cooler climate.

Is the tree in a container adequate for the size of the tree? I think your tree will flush new growth soon, due to the summer months. Interesting you posted from Amsterdam, as I am going to be in Amsterdam the 2nd and 3rd week of May. Take care. - Millet

Millet has collected data on root temperatures before-

What is the color of your container? if theyre getting too hot they may not support growth in the summer, just a thought.

good luck!

Garnet is right about dark pots making soil temps too hot to grow. Or, they could be concentrating on root growth. Just my 2 cents worth!

It has been the same for me this summer in new zealand.I repotted into larger pots and there hasnt been any new growth through the summer and
into autumn. They are taking up water, have slow release fert in them and
look nice and green.I think the roots like to fill the pot up first and then go
for top growth, which is a good thing anyway.I am happy for now,as long as
i dont get leaf drop.If they stay healthy through winter,i expect them to
kick into life in spring.Cheers

Laidbackdood, you can prolly find them on the net or, I have a heating pad that I bought from my big drug store (Walgreens). I used it many times for growing seedlings etc. or a heating mat. Good on my back too & it has low, med & high settings! It was cheap.
