So I am curious about grocery store labeling of satsuma mandarins. I have never seen anything labeled a satsuma until today in any grocery store. Maybe I am skeptic, but these could be just another variant of those ubiquitous clementines? I didn't think satsumas would be around still this time of year. According to the Sunkist page, they are available october to december. And at nearly 7 bucks for 5 lb's? I remain skeptic. But perhaps, that is a good price? I do not know, having never seen them available until now in the stores. They look almost identical to some clementines I see...
If I knew they were satsuma's, and that they had seeds I would consider them. But my understanding is satsuma's do not have seeds? |

Could it be a late Gold Nugget or maybe a satsuma from south of the equator? If from south of equator it should be marked as an import I would think.....Tom _________________ Tom in central Alabama |

Until about 2 weeks ago they were still selling salustiana oranges here. Salustiana are early juicing oranges and are way out of season by now. I guess they just keep selling them until stocks are exhausted.
Now they are finally selling valencia late! _________________ - Marc |

Tom,
The Golden Nuggets are separate and labeled so. I never thought about the possibility of them coming from south of the Equator. Usually I read labels obsessively, and you would think I would have noticed this haha. |

Upon returning today, these mysteries are from California actually. They seem to be mislabeled satsuma haha. Basically a bag of clementines marketed as satsumas for what I do not know?... well the price gouging perhaps. Much like the Golden Nuggets arriving labeled as Dimples. Clever marketing I suppose. |
