YEAA! I have a banana bloom--on one of my no-name plants I got from where I worked--and it is not even one that I wrapped to help it get through the winter. It was only protected by a tree canopy yet came thru several nights of mid 20s. I have another one of those that I wrapped to help it thru the winter and I think it just sent up a flag. Both of these should be early enough to get pretty close to ripe before frost.

My Raji Puri in a container should be getting big enough, but it may be showing signs of choking (new leaves getting hung in the last leaf). Choking is supposedly one of the problems with Raji Puri. Is there anything I can do to reduce the chances of choking?

Got a flag on another banana! Should see the bloom in a few days. This is one that I wrapped the trunk to help it thru the winter--it lost all leaves, but did not need cutting back in spring.

With my 3 new varieties, Ice Cream, Red Cuban and Dwarf Cavendish, I may have to get rid of these no-name banana trees.

Raji Puri is blooming! That's 3 bananas in bloom--I'm happy with that.

As it turns out, I think there are some things you can prevent choking. The last 3 leaves on the Raji Puri were getting hung in the previous leaf. I think if I had not interveened, it would have choked. What I did was unfurl each of the older leaves --tearing them if necessary to allow the next leaf to push on out. Now that the tip of the bloom is out, I don't think there will be a problem.
