Hi,

Minneola tangelo and chinitto are the most fragant of my citruses...

Which of yours have the best perfumed?

What about Seville oranges and grapefruits?

Thanks

I prefer Kumquat (oval), out of my 9 other citrus varietes which flowered so far.

Is Braz Sour similar to Bouqet De Floiri?

My Calamondin tree has by far the most perfumed flowers.

Well thats strange for me. I have Meiwa and Nagami and both varieties hardly have any fragrance to the blossoms. Whats up with that? Crying or Very sad

Musaboru,
Unfortunately that oval kumquat (probably Nagami) is the only Fortunella variety I have so I can not compare.
Fragrance appears very refreshing to me, recalling memory --- maybe slightly similar to lilies.

I do have some Kumquat relatives:
Calamondin don't have any open flower right now, I think it's fragrance is close to a "standard" lemon.
Faustrime still has flowers, mild and unique fragrance, not sure with what I can compare that.

Thanks ivica. I will have to go resniff the few flowers still on the plants. I do recall having to go really up close to get a smell, but the fragrance was very, very light to me. Maybe it has something to do with the size or maturity of the plant. Mines are about 2 1/2 ft high in 5 gallon pots.

My Cara Cara (5 gallon but like 4 feet tall) had 3 little blossoms out of the blue a few weeks ago and I could smell it from yards away. Now that is a powerful scent.

Would you know if there is a sweet fruit version of the Calomondin with such fragrant flowers? I love miniature fruits and also am a major fragrance fanatic.

One of the reasons I love citrus is for the fragant flowers.

From the (limited) experience I have, citrus with orange fruits has a much better fragance than yellow fruited citrus. Not that lemon flowers don't smell nice, but the fragance of oranges (from experience : calamondin, sanguinelli orange, moro orange, clementine) is a lot more delicate.

Another citrus that has a really intense fragance is bergamot. I used to have a bergamot full of flowers in my living room once. It's perfume was so intense it almost gave me a headache Very Happy . Unfortunately I no longer have the bergamot citrus. It was full of red citrus mites and I didn't know how to get rid if that back then, so I threw out the plant... One day or another I'll get me a new bergamot!

Marc - if you have further red spider mite problems there is an excellent chemical control produced by Bayer but not available in the UK and possibly not Belgium. However it is easily available in the Netherlands.
It is called Spint or Masai. See for instance

I'm not sure if masai is available in belgium either, although I believe I have seen it in one specific shop. Anyway, I have found the soapy water method to be very effective!
