Got a call from a Milwaukee police sergeant & he said my burglar has been caught. Don't know details of how, but he confessed to 3 recent burglaries right off. Then cops showed him list of recent one's in area & he confessed to hitting my house...gave details how he went to back door & walked in - got purse & ran out. He's a 40 yr old black male who is addicted to crack. I can't tell you how relieved I am. He said the East side is best to burglarize. He prefers women - they leave windows open etc & are easier to hit. He knocks on door & if no one answeres, he will cut a screen etc & get in. He said women always answer the door...black men never answer the door. He's got it all down pat.If someone answers the door he'll say "is Sherry here" & then apologize for having the wrong house. Cop said he's very well spoken & by looking at him, you'd never suspect him. ..guys next door never lock the back door. If he rang my doorbell, Ida heard it.
I feel bad now that I thought it was my sons' friend. I was intent on getting him. Went to court last week for the girl who was arrested with my checks on her. Talked to asst. DA before court started. He said normally for the initial appearrance, they don't bring the prisoner down...too much time & effort for deputiy to escort them to courtroom. They let attnys. handle it. But he requested that she be brought in to courtroom for me to see her. When her (in handcuffs) & deputy sat in front of room waiting, they both looked directly at me . She recognized me from my DL pic, & I'm sure they mentioned why she was to come to court room (cuz of me). She pleed quilty. I wrote her a letter 2-3 days later & told her I didn't hate her & that I know she didn't rob me. I offered a reward (thru insurance co.) if she can lead to arrest & conviction of robber & told her I worked out something with DA to give her less jail time. (Yes, Iv'e been busy!) Even gave her my ph # to call collect. Haven't heard from her, but it's OK now. They will both be in jail for quite awhile esp. the burglar as he was on parole till 2010. What people will do for drugs is amazing! Oh yeah, the checks she wrote to the big grocery stores were for cartons of cigarettes to sell on street for drug money. And I thought it was groceries -DUH. Nice job Milwaukee police!

Patty this happened to me back in the 1980s. On my birthday I scheduled at half days vacation starting at 12 noon. The door going into the house was locked. One of our small dogs was locked in the back bedroom, this was never done. Changed clothes, these was several dollars of coffee kitty money on my dresser, it was gone, my ring was gone and various other small things including my wifes jewelry. The robber was an ex convict and he would knock on doors and if no one answered he would go to the back door and break in. At first gong in I did not notice how thing were misplaced. He threw thing behind the refrig, under the bes,etc so the break in would ne be noticed quickly. The man next door was home, the next house the young lady did not go to the door, he went to her back door and started prying the door open, she was on the phone with her mother and told her mother to call the police. The burglar sensed thet some one was home and backed out, The police were in the immediate area and was driveing down the street. The burglar ran and the police knew this was the person they were after. After climbing fences and running through back yard he was caught. He had stuffed our belinging in a small rain coat bag and threw it into a neighbors hedge. Several days later the neighbor found the bag and gave it to the police. Most of our belongings were recovered.

Hi Patty,
I'm glad they got them-- hope you get your stuff back. I know how you feel-- I had some thieves take a bunch of my stuff from our place on the river---made me so mad!-- I knew who did it, but just could not prove it---cops didn't help much-- they got a call telling them where it was-- but it was gone when they got there.

BTW--I am impressed with the variety of thing you grow up there!

Thanks Skeet, I will never get the things back..lucky it was only my purse, but both sets of house & car keys were in there. Cost $250.00 to get 2 more car keys & remotes. I changed all locks & still have to go to bank to sign a affidavit of forgery for 2 checks forged. I'm sure my HO will cover this minus deductible, and then we have crime victims assistance which will cover the rest. Like I said, I was burglarized before when I wasn't home...took jewelry, bikes, tools etc, but this one bothers me more in that I was home when he came in!!! Thinking what woulda happened if I woke up & saw him....makes me shudder.
Just want to say, besides locking all your doors, pin all your lower windows to not open more than 6-8 inches.

Don't know if it means anything now, but my burglar was sentenced today. He got 5 yrs on - 5 yrs off...meaning 5yrs jail & 5 yrs paorole. An advocate informes of of all that is going on. I was invited to go to court today & I was up at 6:30. His sentencing was was at 8:30. Do I really want to see this guy? Have more nightmares about him like I have? I couldn't do it...couldn't go. Friends told me me not to go.
He is a 41 yr old black male addicted to crack & would do anything for a fix. he is not from my neighborhood & finds this a easy place to burglarize (east side MKE). Esp. where women are. Read back & find out how he get's in!
I'm dissapointed in his sentencing. He was caught in 3 burglaries in one night ...@ a felony, then confessed to about 20 more..including mine, but got charged HIM with 3 felony burlaries & THAT'S ALL. They gave him sentencing for the 3 burglaries because he confessed to all../.plea bargain. /they REWARDED HIM!!! No charge for what he did to me.
Agaian I say, What would he have done if I woke up & caught him in my house???? Hate to think of it I hear he is really scarry looking, I have nightmares of what coulda been if I woke up & saw him.
I end this episode now.......I hope.

Hope you are able to get this behind you and you never have this kind of trouble visiting you ever again. This old world is changing faster than I can keep up with it and its getting scarier every day. Glad this is over and glad you didn't go to court you didn't need that. Take care of you
