Not sure if this is the right place... but I just recieved a pomegrante. I swore it was dead... but everyone insisted it was alive. when I recieved it it was nothing but dead looking branches, no life at all. I snipped off several dry, definatly dead branches. placed it in the room with my citrus and within 2 days MANY leaf buds popped out everywhere. I guess it liked the added heat of the room (had been outside of the greenhouse where Igot it)

anyways, I'd like to know how to, if possible, to take cuttings from the tree. best times, best type of branches. IF this is even possible. Do I root in water or dip in rooting homone and transplant? Is it easier to just plant the seeds, do they come true? I dont know my variety but I was told it produces largeish fruits. Its only 18" tall aty best, very little bush/tree. is it best to wait till its a lot larger to do much?

thanks

Hi Betty!

Propagate pomegranates almost the same way you propagate roses by cuttings. Rooting hormones help a lot.

Pomegranates really looked like dead bushes during the winter, and they are also later to come leafing out, later than apples, pears and persimmons in our area. So most people would think they have died during the winter.

I have ultradwarf pomegranates as ornamentals. They produce tiny fruits, are currently potted but will plant them in the front yard as decorative ornamentals along the driveway.
