I don't know how old it is, I got it when it was quite mature. It is just over 4 '.

Today, I found more yellow fungi in my jessamine. Bright yellow!! To my surprised, I found three mushrooms, two about an inch tall, tapering towards the apex with a tiny yellow cap.

With the info that this fungus actually produces a mushroom, I was able to narrow my search and I think I've got it!! Leucocoprinus birnbaumii!!!

http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache:Jq62mEBIoFgJ:www.mushroomexpert.com/leucocoprinus_birnbaumii.html+Leucocoprinus+birnbaumii&hl=en&gl=ca&ct=clnk&cd=1

If you look at the 5th picture down, a photo taken by Marta Barcelo, and see the tiny mushrooms in the back, this is what mine look like, but the cap is still even smaller on mine, so I assume they are very young.

The site says they often pop up in house plants or greenhouses that are very warm, we all know this is my case!! Site says they don't hurt the plant but doesn't specify whether they are beneficial or symbiotic towards the plant. They actually encourage you to let them grow, since they offer a very contrasting color to the green plant as a ground cover. Don't know if I'd go that far myself.

Anyways, maybe this is the fungus some of you saw in your pots, but never saw the mushroom as they never got that far in their life cycle.

Gen, you are probably correct in your find. I have copied your link for my records. After the fungi first appeared in my containers, and then disappeared, I have never seen it come back, nor have I ever seen actual mushroom, probably due to lower heat. Thanks for the information. - Millet

They are so CUTE! Looks like 2 ghosts. Wonder if they are poison or edible (?) You must keep soil surface fairly moist to grow shrooms...esp in your high dry heat. Do you have fungus gnats too? Hope those roots don't rot!

Hi Patty. These are poisonous to eat - or as most sites say "probably" poisonous. I do let the plant dry well before waterings. I notice the yellow in the past along the surface a day after watering (colonizes fast!), but never a mushroom! But it has been so hot and sunny lately, I think I may have watered a bit too much in the last week and a half, thinking my normal afternoon wilt was thirst. Haven't seen afternoon wilt since last summer, so I wasn't thinking of that. Don't ask me why I didn't physically check the soil, not one of my better moments I suppose lol. Maybe that's why they actually grew to an inch long. They are pretty odd looking aren't they?

Glad to say I have no fungus gnats whatsoever. I am very surprised!!

As for rot, like I said above, it's only recently I think I jumped the gun with water, so it will be okay, I am very confident. The thing has never looked happier bizaarely! Very Happy
