The very base and buried is trifoliate type (forgot specific one), then the Lisbon provides most of the support because I like the way it is sparsely spreading.
And Lisbon, though one of the cold hardy lemons, is not cold hardy enough for 19 deg F. So I am putting a wine barrel loaded with hot water underneath the canopy near the trunk. |

so joe....are you saying your tree and fruits did well at 25.5F last night...but that you are worried now about 17-19F ? let us know how well they will do with your hot water....I did make sure that ground is saturated yesterday...will probably do the same tonight and tomorrow night as well....
I will watch your guys temperatures, now knowing your towns...
Joe, are you in Davis or what is closer town ? _________________ Citrus & Cherimoya Addict |

Heres how I got my citrus covered
You may wonder what was that white pole sticking up on the roof that looks like a chimney. It is a newly transplanted California Gold banana with flowers. I wrapped the p-trunk with burlap, Christmas lights and clear plasiic. Half way down the trunk I wrapped it with floor heat mat.

It only went briefly to 25.5 F, so nothing turned to mush.
Tomorrow it is still going to be 19 deg F, and 6 of those hours would be below 26 deg F, the forecast isn't changing. WAAAAAAAAAAAH
I may lose my 50-n-1 tree!!! |

That is what I am looking for. The Ice Cream is 18-20 ft high & is a pain in the ass to remove once it is time to cut the mother plant down (And very heavy)... |
