I have 20 seedlings that are 2 years old. Has anyone had experience growing them from seed or any info on them at all ? I can't find any info on Nuclem. I do remember that the fruit was good. I should have bought a grafted tree.

I have never heard of Nuclem but it almost sounds like a contraction of Nules Clemetine which, if true, would not produce true to type seedlings.

I have a fairly large Nuclem tree growing in my yard which I grafted out some years ago on Swingle. The tree stands about 10ft tall on a south facing wall right up next to my house.

Initially I had doubts about it being able to survive up here in my zone 8a since in the first couple of years it had nearly totally defoliated each winter. It has become much more freeze tolerant as it has gotten older and produces excellent tasting clementine-type fruit. I usually get about 1-5 seeds per fruit. I rate it among the top three best tasting 'hardy' citrus trees I have planted out. I don't think seedlings would survive on their own with out being grafted on to some form of poncirus in anything colder than zone 8b. I have given out seedlings locally and they all have died out from the cold.

Millet, I do have about 85% of the plants that are listed on that page (as my back can attest to) but have culled out a few that weren't worth keeping. It's been tough letting some of the plants go but there simply just isn't enough room to keep them all. For some reason I can get into my page but cannot edit what I have written to update it.

Hershal,

If it is the "Nuclem" I am familiar with, I have a 10 or 12 year old tree in the ground here. It bears heavily ever year and the fruit is very good. It is fairly seedy, but not enough seed to be a problem for me.

My start came from a friend in Montezuma, GA (near Macon). The tree at Montezuma has been hardy there for years. If I remember correctly some seedlings I grew some years back bore fruit in 3 to 4 years. Seems like the fruit those seedlings tasted like the parent. I have been told this is a cross between Satsuma and Clementine, but I can't verify that. Given the growing habit and taste, it is certainly possible.
