Truman Ranch, at Greenway Road and 188th Avenue in
Surprise, is open 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays
through March 18 for picking several varieties of citrus.
The University of Arizona shut down its citrus research farm in 2009 for budgetary reasons.
James Truman, who had managed the university's Citrus Agricultural Center since 1988, went on to an office job. He couldn't stand the commute and now has opened the research farm to the public so people can pick their own citrus.
