I have a bunch of seed for the Pindo palm (Butia capitata). We also have a hybrid in the neighborhood with very upright leaves that is full of fruit as well.

Also coming into season is the Sabal Palmetto & Sabal minor if anyone is looking for seed.

Not sure. I will get some photos tomorrow. Leaves are very upright, unlike the standard Pindo.

The only pindo palm hybrid I've ever heard of is Butecastrum, a hybrid of pindo (Butia capitata) crossed with queen palm (Syagrus romanzoffianum, formerly known as Arecastrum romanzoffianum). It's a nice palm, fairly common here. I believe (but cannot prove) that it is somewhat less cold-hardy than the Butea; certainly queen palm is much less hardy.

Thanks Malcolm. I have heard of this cross. It is also called a Mule palm if I am correct ? From what I have heard the Mule palm is also sterile & can not produce viable seed. The tree's down the street are not this hybrid. The leaves are almost straight. normal Pindo's have a curl to the leaves.

Laaz, I would be very interested in getting some seed of butia cross palm. Let me know what I might have to do as far as postage or cost.
