Hi Guys,

I'm new to growing tropical fruits. Unfortunately, as a Canadian.. it severely limits me, and.. as a student, it limits me even more,.. considering I do not currently have the money to invest in a million dollar greenhouse.. Wink anywho.

I've recently purchased a 'young' Guava (Psidium Guajava) . Just over a foot tall.

Unfortunately, due to the Zone 5 weather.. he will be indoors up until late April, potentially later. When the weather warms up, its consistently >68-86 degrees F. For around 4-5 months.

I have made the obvious observation that plants I grow do better in ground.

I'm not sure if this is a method of not; I wouldn't know what to look up if it was. BUT, Is it a possibility to plant the guava in the ground when the weather warms up, and dig him up and put him in a container when it gets too cold? Is that too risky?

Any feedback would be great.
Clearly, I'm thinking about this way in advance..considering winter hasn't even started here..sigh.

Thanks,
Steve

I've been growing 4 diff guavas in pots for 4-5 yrs. I'd be afraid of having to cut some roots off when digging it up in Fall. I would leave it in pot & just go up in size when needed.

Patty,
Have you been successful in fruiting the guavas?

When I have the money, I really want to add; chilean, strawberry, and pineapple to the collection,

Pineapple is excellent!! Last yeatr I did get some fruits on the pineapple but they fell off or squirrels got them. I'm expecting the others to fruit hopefully next year as they will be fruiting age. It looks like blossoms are starting on my ruby red but too soon to tell.
