My wife is from Nicaragua and around December, they pass out like candy a fruit called sweet lemon, and the fruit tastes just like it's name. I was wondering if anyone knows the ID of this sweet lemon and what's the name of the tree. I was thinking of trying to grow it, is it tropical or have some winter hardiness to it? Thanks for your help. |

Hi Andrew.
Maybe the sweet Palestine Lime -Citrus latifolia? Do you know is the fruit round or lemon-shaped?

I think I remember reading somewhere about a limetta variety called "Nicaragua." |

ok, asked my wife, the fruit have green skin and are completely round. About size of an orange. Inside, the fruit is yellow and it ripens in December. |

If growing in the tropics, many Citrus types will have green skin when fruit is mature. To my taste, the Sweet Lime has a lot of "rosewater/ turkish delight" flavor, rather than a sweet lemon/ lemonade type flavor of other varieties. |

well, the odd thing about some latin american countries is that they use limon for both limes and lemons. So that makes the ID harder for the fruit. I have seen many sites on the internet talking about citrus dulce trees in central america, but I never get a name of the tree or a site where I can purchase the fuit. Very disappointing so far. |
