My wife is from Nicaragua and around December, they pass out like candy a fruit called sweet lemon, and the fruit tastes just like it's name. I was wondering if anyone knows the ID of this sweet lemon and what's the name of the tree. I was thinking of trying to grow it, is it tropical or have some winter hardiness to it? Thanks for your help.

Hi Andrew.

Maybe the sweet Palestine Lime -Citrus latifolia? Do you know is the fruit round or lemon-shaped?

I think I remember reading somewhere about a limetta variety called "Nicaragua."

If growing in the tropics, many Citrus types will have green skin when fruit is mature. To my taste, the Sweet Lime has a lot of "rosewater/ turkish delight" flavor, rather than a sweet lemon/ lemonade type flavor of other varieties.

well, the odd thing about some latin american countries is that they use limon for both limes and lemons. So that makes the ID harder for the fruit. I have seen many sites on the internet talking about citrus dulce trees in central america, but I never get a name of the tree or a site where I can purchase the fuit. Very disappointing so far.
