Interesting stuff!
Maybe some day they will be able to develop a blood orange that does not need the special requirements to develop the pigmentation and taste!

Well, it are only the anthocyan pigments, who need that.
The lycopin ones like from Caracara and the pink/red Grapefruit do not need it.
Same about the ancient italian varity Sanguinello-Vaniglia, which is also pink.

But there's no comparison between a caracara and a good moro or sanguinelli orange! They're both great but a completely different taste!
