Tholen - "The import season for Spanish citrus is developing very well. We are satisfied with the prices and the quality, but the volumes are disappointing. I expect the season to end early and until the end of the season it will be hard," Willem Koole of the Dutch import company Frukar says. Although the season is difficult, he claims this has nothing to do with the quality of the fruit. "The best citrus is still coming from Spain," Willem Koole says.
Frukar imports oranges, mandarins and lemons from Spain. The upcoming two weeks, Frukar expects to receive Navelinas. After that, the Navelinas will be replaced by Navel, Navel Late and Lane Late. "We expect the fruit to be of a very good quality. There will be less fruit available and although the fruit is still on the three, the prices are already increasing," Willem Koole says.
There is a shortage on all kinds of citrus in Spain. Not only in oranges but also in mandarins. It is already hardly impossible to get Clemenules. So Frukar will import the varieties Ellendale, Clemenvilla, Ortanique en Nadarcott. "There will also be a shortage in this variety, so mandarins will stay expensive," Willem Koole expects.
The upcoming two weeks, Frukar expects to receive Spanish lemons. At the moment, Willem Koole already reviews a very good and rare season. "This season will never come back. There were too less lemons so the prices were magnificent," Willem Koole says.
