or generally, what's good rootstock for Mexican Key Limes?

TreeSource, LLC uses sour orange as rootstock for Key Limes. I was wondering what other good ones under our Northern California climate.

I tried grafting Key Limes unto Eureka and Lisbon lemons, the grafts are barely surviving, but they do fruit, simply not thriving.

So what other rootstocks can be used?

So far the Giant Key Lime have been T-budded unto Lisbon, bark grafted unto Meyer Lemon, and T-budded into two rootstocks of Volkameriana. I just hope one of them will take and become vigorous. My sour orange rootstocks are still tiny.

Will report later this fall as to what remained alive after a month, and if i don't forget, will report this coming spring whatever sprouted.

All dead after one winter... Crying or Very sad

time for plan B.... Anyone here have seeds of Giant Key Lime?

I have some regular key limes on Swingle just for the hell of it... Key limes do great on their own roots & bare fruit in two years. Try rooting a cutting...

I grafted/budded successfully many kinds of limes, including key limes, just not the GIANT Key Lime. It is a tetraploid (not 100% sure yet), and so am having difficulty finding the right type that would take it. Sometimes, it would initially take, even sprout a couple of leaves, then a year later, its dead.

Yes, I might do a rooted cutting, but problem is that it wouldn't have a good anchorage.

I never even heard of a Giant Key Lime until you mentioned it.

I'll order some next year. I did not order any budwood this fall cutting. I have ordered Giant Key Lime budwoods twice, and none survived. Tried various combos, managed to have them sprout, but long-term compatibility isn't one of them yet. I'll order them next year.

I got you covered Laaz. I can send you a small stick whenever you're ready to receive. I have mine grafted on Keraji mandarin and haven't had any compatiblity issues as of yet. I can't remember exactly when I grafted it but I think my plant is reaching its third year. Joe I can send you some fresh Keraji seeds in about a month if you need or want to try them.

Yes! I'd love to try them. The Ventura lemandarin seeds you've sent me have 100% germination rate.

I also received some of Gaylord's Lemondarin seeds, and got 100 percent germination. I am now growing on two of the seedlings, that have now reached 2-feet in height. Seems to be a vigorous variety. - Millet

I've had good luck this fall budding giant key lime. I had to re-order from CCPP after my refrigerator malfunctioned and froze my scions last spring. GKL has taken to flying dragon and standard key lime. I also chip budded a few. Both times I've got the budwood it was from large, thorny branches. Oh well, I hope the fruits are large!
