The well known company J.R.Peters Company, makers of the highest quality water soluble fertilizers, now manufactures a 5-1-3 ratio fertilizer. The formulation is 25-5-15 water soluble fertilizer with added trace minerals. This formulation exactly matches the ratio of nutrient uptake by citrus trees . An especially outstanding fertilizer formulation for containerized trees. - Millet

That's great news! I hope they'll be offered by retail stores like CostCo, Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Lowe's.

Currently, the best fertilizers that I would love to use are found in specialty nursery stores and for an arm, leg and a head for the price per pound. Also, if they will be sold online, the shipping companies are gonna make a killing out of your pockets.

I talked to J. R. Peters Company today on the telephone concerning 25-5- 15, because I did not see this formulation listed on their web site. The representative told me the reason that it is not listed on their web site, is because 25-5-15 is not a retail formulation. The Peters company is marketing this new formulation through their distributors. I can buy it in Denver through the Denver Wholesale Florist Company (DWF). DWF is a supply company to the greenhouse industry. I have been buying from them for many years. 25-5-15 is sold in traditional 25-lb. bags, which is traditional for Peters industrial products. This would be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to make a few extra dollars, to purchase this product in bulk, and repack it in 1 and 5-lb. jars, then re-market it to the hobby industry. - Millet

I don't know the price of a bag. However, for 25-lbs. of fertilizer we can't be talking about all that much. I'm going back up to the mountains for the weekend, looking at the changing color with the Aspen trees. I buy a bag next week and post it here. - Millet

For in ground growing we are fortunate in our area. Lone Star super lawn and turf builder is a 15-5-10 and is les than $11.00 for a 40 pound bag. This has gave excellent results for me.

Millet, thanks for posting the price.

Here's my comments.

As a soluble fertilizer, the price is very reasonable, especially for automated fertigation system.

But as fertilizer applied in batches and periodically, it is quite very pricey. I could make my own mix that would be at par, for fraction of the cost. But if you are in a hurry and don't want to bother with the calcs and mixing and then storing the batches, then the fertilizer is handy.

Compared to other fertilizers in a specialty store, their price is very reasonable and at par with all the other special mixes.

Joe, you are correct, that a person could formulate a 5-1-3 ratio fertilizer at a less expensive price, and it might be worth doing so if a grower used tons of that formula per year. However, as I use 5-9 bags a year, I just do not want to bother with do it. The J. R. Peter company but out a product of the highest quality. - Millet

Funny, I used to go to a DWF in Milwaukee, but they only carried florist supplies like pots, ribbons, decorations, etc.
Thanks for the info, hopefully our local GH dealer will have some, or be able to get some.
Costs of fertilizer have skyrocketed, $32 seems cheap.

Yes, and the brand is by and large worth recommending to people who are more for convenience. I will be recommending it to busy friends.

Susan, I found out that DWF had 25-5-15 in stock by calling the Peters company. If you cannot easily find a supply, you might call Peters Company and ask who in your area carries the product. When I called Peters the girl who answers their phone did not know of 25-5-15 (new product), but when I told her that indeed Peters is manufacturing it, she connected me to the fertilizer products supervisor, and she told me where in Denver I could buy it. As it turns out, I already had an account with DWF. The Denver branch of DWF carries fertilizers, insecticides and etc. because there is a large number of greenhouses in the metro area. - Millet

I am out of luck. I called JR Peters company and they said there's no distributor here in California and referred me to a New York distributor and when I called them they said they don't sell retail. I have to order a thousand pounds or more they said.
There goes my wisheywashey.
It's OK. I have one that is just as good I think and for my bananas combined.
