Getting ready to spray my apples and peaches with oil to kill any aphids that wintered on the wood.

Does anybody spray citrus before spring?

I spray UltraFine horticultural oil on my citrus trees for aphids, mealy bug, white fly, and scale throughout the year; winter, summer fall (my trees are greenhouse trees). If you want to kill aphids, horticultural oil works very well. A good side benefit is that horticultural oils are totally non toxic. If the trees that you will be spraying already have foliage, be sure to spray only on a cloudy day, or later in the day before sunset. -Millet (700-)

I got cracking this morning. Measured out the oil to make 2 gallons worth of spray. Filled the sprayer with water. Then sprayed all twelve, apple, peach and citrus trees. Man I am good I thought. Went to do barbecue chicken this afternoon. Next to the grill was the oil I measured out this morning. I had sprayed all those trees just with water.

Now I recall reading another post - (maybe on the old UBC citrus forum) the difference between Horticultural oil and dormant oils. As I recall ... use dormant oil on deciduous trees during the dormant season and use horticultural oils on trees with foliage present ie citrus trees.

I don't think its a good idea to use either type of oil on your BBQ chicken Laughing
