Thought I would catalog some pics before I tasted and planted...

Microcitrus Virgata (sydney hybrid)

Microcitrus Inodora

Microcitrus Australasica var sanguinea

Faustrimedin (Microcitrus Australasica x Calomondin)

Kabosu

The real surprise here was the Sydney Hybrid! The minute you cut into it, you get the amazing smell of the fruit. I think it taste better than the finger lime also. Same size fruit globules.

Time Change tonight people!

Citrusboy (Marc) has some excellent pictures of unusual citrus species from his visit to Riverside. He has allowed me to include them in my website, so far at:
Citrus inodora and
Citrus warburgiana

Mike,

You have the bext Australian citrus website and collection around AND you are in the UK. So I am suspecting that you have a pretty decent size greenhouse and make numerous trips to Australia. Or maybe it was just the one for the Olympics?

I am wondering how long before my Australian citrus starts to bear. My grafted Finger lime from Four Winds hasn't bloomed yet and it's going through another growth flush. Seedlings I have heard anywhere from 3-14 years depending on the variety.

I am also getting some Eremocitrus Glauca Hybrid fruit this summer from UCR and will get some pics and taste the fruit this summer.

Thanks for the photos and review....
I'd love to try growing some of these varieties. Does anyone mailorder?
Thanks,
Susan

You should email the folks at the UCR citrus variety collection to see if they will collect some fruit for you. You will need a fedex or ups account number for them to ship fruit out to you, if it's in season. Nobody I know in the US has a mailorder business for anything but the Australian Finger lime.

Mark, thanks for the pictures, they are a valuable addition to our site. Actually, when one is aquainted with a few of the citrus collectors in the USA, it is not difficult to obtain each and every one of the Austrailian citrus varieties that exists. - Millet

Ah yes, Millet, The Citrus Subculture underground business. Shekwasa & Kabosu seeds came from eGullet forum member in Japan. Ugli fruit from Tradewinds. Blood orange x Satsuma from Texas & The rest from UCR CCPP or the UCR Citrus Variety.

I would not call Tradewinds subculture, I would call them a legitimate business. However, when one's business is dealing in citrus seeds, one has an immediate problem, due to the short time period that citrus seed remains viable. I would never mess with seed any way, as it takes much to long to obtain a mature tree. - Millet
