Citrus pioneer Swingle was also responsible for introducing the fig pollinator wasp (allows the seedy nuttier flavored figs out west) and the finest of dates. I happened across the association with figs yesterday but just found this interesing link that tells a bit more about him.

GoneBananas, thank you for the very interesting link. I very much like everything connected with the history of citrus. In fact I just tonight entered into my journal the fact that the Tahiti Lime was discovered and named by a woman from Los Angles, California, which I read in one of Dr. Manners posts earlier this evening. - Great Link. - Millet
