Anyone know for sure if these two are different cultivars?
They are sold as different here in the Houston/Beaumont, TX area. My ponkan on a vigorous rootstock froze to the rootstock even though banked with dirt last winter. It tried to come back from the graft but later shriveled and died to the rootstcok. My pong koa froze but is coming back from the graft.
The ground actually froze here last winter, the first I've seen in my 32 years here. Banking with dirt has always saved my grafts until last year! |

What weather sequence caused that? I know it wasn't the lows as the year before was worse. _________________ Charles in Pensacola

If Pon Koa is larger than the Pon Kan, I would like to get a Pon Koa tree. I have a Pon Kan tree and it produces the largest mandarins that I have personally seen. - Millet (604-) |

It stayed below freezing for 22 hours one day and then the same the next day. The ground was crunchy. |

I hope that we don't see that any more but with all this global warming sucking up the heat I guess it has to get cold right? LOL _________________ Charles in Pensacola
