I ordered a clementhom tree from Sherwood Aiken about 7 years ago. The tree is supposed to be a cross between clementine & Thomasville citrangequat. My tree has flowered for several years now but has yet to bear a fruit. I have rooted cuttings, shared budsticks etc over years and the little cuttings would flower and set fruit. I had not been able to taste the fruit until yesterday. My good friend, Byron Martin of Logees Greenhouse's in Connecticut offered to mail a fruit of Clementhom from some fruiting rooted specimens he had gotten from me. Now, the bottome line.. Fruit is extremely beautiful.. about the size of a small orange, smooth skin and a nice yellow/orange color.. the taste however is another matter. The trifoliate background of this one really comes thru and an hour after sampling the fruit, I could still taste the effects of my experience! The fruit Byron sent was starting to go soft so perhaps a fresh fruit right from the tree would give a better reading of how the fruit is. It is seedless which is a positive. Just thought Id report on a very unusual citrus type that had heretofore been untested.

Hi Stan. Well if it doesn't taste good, it should still make a great ornamental for people outside the citrus belt. As your in zone 8a has it recieved any frost damage in the past few years ?

The tree which is about 8 ft or so tall has never suffered any ill effects from cold. Spider mites seem to prefer the flavor of this one above all others however! Confused

Stan, first thanks for a great expo. You did a first class job, it was fun.The clementhom being a Clementine, thomasville cross makes the clenenthom only 1/4 trifoliate. As the thomasville is really not a bad tasting fruit I would think the additional clementine cross would reduce the trifoiate to a point that the trifoliate taste would be greatly reduced. Maybe as happens with satsumas, when the tree gets some additional age the fruits might mature to a a better taste. Thanks for the thread. - Millet
