My Chinotto myrtifolia that I purhased mid July (midwinter) was looking extremely "hard" and neglected but with some bushy old foliage and a strong trunk.
I planted it into my raised bed that contains a mix of loam and old potting mix and added osmocote citrus fertilizer. I repeated this fertilizer 3 months later following with miracle grow. Ph is 6. All my other citrus nearby are great.
It is now spring after a very wet 3 months. The 30 inch chinotto has/is blooming very prolifically while the leaves are falling leaving the petioles attached to the stem. I gave it a feed last week with epsom salts as it's leaves were showing a magnesium deficiency. Yellow at the tip in a v shape.
The tree hasn't made any new growth at all and is going into a decline.
It's balder than I am (Just).
From what I gather reading through your search is that it possibly is showing the results of too much water. However I may be wrong.
Would removing the blooms on this small tree help it get some new foliage growth?.
Would I be better to lift the tree and pot it into porous orchid mix and put it in my greenhouse to recuperate?
Should I just let nature take it's course now that temperatures are in the low 70sF during the day and things are getting a bit dryer?
I would hate to lose it as the chinotto is very hard to get down here (which is why I purchased such a sad one).
Any advice would be much appreciated

Hey Glenn,
I had most of the leaves fall off both my limes and both my buddhas hand.
I think it was because we had such a wet winter here in NZ!
They have since the last month or two grown all their leaves back and are looking v.healthy with lots of new growth.
I just picked up a Chinotto from Kings Plant barn last week and and has NO new spring growth on it yet so maybe that variety may be a late bloomer?
It also has plenty of flowers and little fruits.
My other mand3erines and oranges have just woken up and sprouted new growth just in the last 2 weeks also.
I'd maybe leave it where it is and hope for the best personally.
Maybe its a late grower??

Thanks T Rex that makes me feel better.
I will wait for the first signs of new growth with patience.
My 'quats are all bursting into growth at long last.
Key Lime and Chinotto must work on a different time clock.
Cheers.
